Bumping for my daytime followers because it’s that important:
PEOPLE: SPREAD THE WORD!!!
Okay, I apologize in advance for a serious post but this one is important and it’s not getting a thousandth as much publicity as it needs. There’s a new bill in the House right now that would reinstate the government’s ability to impose Droit du Seigneur or “Jus Primae Noctis” on U.S. citizens.
House Republicans introduced the measure yesterday (May 4th) as a rider on a law aimed at limiting protest movements which is expected to pass unchallenged. I cannot overstate how drastically this law would violate citizens rights. Not only does it explicitly violate the Third Amendment but it makes a potential ban on Gay Marriage look like a mosquito bite compared to a missing limb.
I can’t even express how sickened I am at this disgusting, barbaric bill. These are laws that haven’t been enacted since medieval times, if even then. We would literally be going back to the dark ages. The law includes no oversight and could be used (And historically, was only used) to justify rape, sexual harassment, abuse, the list goes on. Government officials who commit those crimes would be declared not only untouchable by law but within their rights! Please educate yourself about Droit du Seigneur laws immediately. Then write your representatives and tell them that this shit won’t happen in America.
We will not let it happen. The government has overstepped its bounds by definition. It has no legal justification. This is an illegal bill. Demand it be thrown out! Demand that those who wrote it be subjected to committee review. Please reblog this and email it to every dang person you know. Get the word out because there’s not a couple in America of any persuasion that won’t be outraged when they hear it. They want to pass it unseen. MAKE IT SEEN!
This is America. Our leaders are not above our laws! Remind them of that now before it’s too late!!!Thank you,

So I was thinking. What will it be like when (if) the internet dies for good? What would it be like without it just there to answer our questions, keep us entertained, connect us to people… I found a way for us to briefly experience what it’s going to feel like. For 5 seconds. Just sit there and…

I thought of maybe an email network
But the government is supposedly going to be watching our email.
Maybe we could all set up PO Boxes and snail mail graphics to each other.
The USB in the wall thing was pretty interesting.
I don’t even know.
This is just ridiculous.

It has truly been an honour blogging with you all. You have opened my eyes to so many wonderful things. I am now a better educated, more well rounded person, because of each and everyone of you. You have given me a place to feel accepted, even when reality has not. And while I have not directly spoken to many of you, I would like to let you all know, you have touched my heart and helped make me into the person I am today. You gave me an outlet to express myself through fanfiction. You have praised my work, where others would have scorned it for the so-called taboo ideas. You have shown me that, while those around me may be closed minded to the differences between us, there are so many people who are willing to accept everyone for who they are and love them, no matter what they bring to the table. You are all such beautiful, wonderful people and if the internet falls, I would like to say to you all, Thank you. And I will miss you terribly.

As I was putting my Merlin DVDs back into the box I realized something, without the internet, without Tumblr or Youtube, or Streaming websites, I would never have even known of Merlin. I certainly wouldn’t have ordered all 3 seasons of it, spending money I really shouldn’t have spent. This also goes for Torchwood. If it had not been for a fanvid and scenes I had seen on youtube and streaming websites which allowed me to watch the shows so I could see if I even wanted to watch, I would not have bought all 3 seasons of the show (once again spending money I really should not have spent. ) I wouldn’t have bought Series 1 of Sherlock if not for a streaming site (and I wouldn’t have freaked out about Series 2 and made immediate plans to by it as soon as it comes out in the states ), I wouldn’t have known about any of my favourite bands or songs or even films that I have spent loads of money buying if not for youtube and music blogs that will eventually be shut down by your anti-piracy bills. I’ve bought books because of blogs telling me how great they are, I’ve spent hundreds of dollars on manga and anime because of so called illegal sites which let me try them out and see that I would love them.
And it is due to sites such as Tumblr which keep these obsessions alive so that I spend more money on merchandise and physical copies to accompany my iTunes copies so I have all of the Special Features and interviews and commentaries.
You may think that by imposing SOPA/ACTA on the commonwealth that you will be saving money, but in the long run you are wrong. You say you have lost millions of dollars due to piracy, did you even stop to consider how dedicated the fan base is for any of those things, did it even occur to you that we use the internet so we can find more things to love so we can eventually buy it because we are so obsessed and we cannot imagine life without the physical real deal copy? Did you even think to factor in the increased revenue you received through free publicity from sites such as tumblr and youtube? I’ve lost count of the number of people who I have seen say they are converted to a show just because those of us who already love it bombard them with images and fics and rants and essays we have composed to our fandom.
Yes, I admit you are hurting us with your SOPA/ACTA, but it isn’t just us, in the long run you will feel the affects as well. Those of us who know what was taken away from us, we will bleed, but eventually people will stop realizing they are missing something. They won’t know about your shows or your music, because it isn’t anywhere that we can see it. You will lose profits and you will fall, and it will be your fault entirely.
ACTA in a Nutshell –
What is ACTA? ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.
Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”
What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.

Say NO to ACTA. It is essential to spread awareness and get the word out on ACTA.
COME ON HOW DOES THIS HAVE SO LITTLE NOTES?WAKE UUUUUPPPP#oh fudgecakes #it’s like everyone decided they want to ruin the Internet the same day
FUDGECAKES. I love you. Honestly though, why has everyone suddenly decided to kill the internet -.-
